“Rest in Peace Chris. Condolences to all his family, friends and loved ones. We will miss you,” tweeted Drew Rosenhaus, who, according to the Associated Press, was Smith’s agent.
During his NFL career, Smith had played for various teams. Prior to his death, he had been playing for the XFL’s Seattle Sea Dragons.
“The entire XFL family mourns the loss of Chris Smith, a cherished player and member of the Seattle Sea Dragons,” a statement shared on social media by the XFL and the Seattle Sea Dragons said. “Chris was a powerful prescence in the locker room and universally loved by teammates and the coaching staff, he will be deeply missed by all. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his entire family and teammates at this difficult time.”
“We are deeply saddened by the passing of former Browns DE Chris Smith. Chris was one of the kindest people, teammates and friends we’ve had in our organization. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family during this difficult time,” the NFL’s Cleveland Browns tweeted.
