A HI-TECH LESSON ~

Years ago…

I had Verizon for my cell phone and for a USB stick that was a wireless hotspot.

Well, I moved and my cell phone still worked great, but I couldn’t get my wireless hotspot to work. (And I was assured it would.)

So, I called the company to cancel my hotspot since it didn’t work.

The customer service person told me it would be a $150 cancellation fee since I was cancelling the service.

I calmly explained that it didn’t work like I was promised and that was the reason I was canceling.

The customer service person (who was clearly in India) told me he would cancel it and I would be charged $150.

I said I was not paying $150 to cancel a service that didn’t work.

Seeing as I was getting nowhere, I asked to speak with a supervisor.

Again, calmly, I explained that I was told the service would work and it didn’t.

This was the reason I needed to cancel and that I wasn’t going to pay $150 to cancel something that didn’t work for me.

If it had worked, I wouldn’t need to be canceling it.

As if I was talking to a robot, I was told, “yes, we can cancel your service but you will be charged $150.”

Still biting my tongue and having the patience of Job, I thought if I gave the supervisor a math lesson it might help.

I explained that I had several phones with Verizon. That I paid around $200 a month for various phones for family members.

$200 a month is $2,400 a year.

Were they willing to lose a customer worth $2,400 a year, for a $150 fee they wanted to charge me for something that didn’t work?

I kid you not, after my math lesson, I got almost the exact same response of, “yes, we can cancel your service but you will be charged $150.”

At that point, I lost my cool and told them they were a bunch of idiots and cancelled everything I had with them.

However, their horrible customer service isn’t the only reason I will never, ever use Verizon for anything again.

What most people don’t know, is that among big cell phone companies, Verizon is the worst of the worst when it comes to privacy.

Verizon sells your location data to companies for marketing purposes.

What’s more, Verizon does not adhere to the industry practice of encrypting your calls.

Basically, it’s all about the money and they’ll sell your data and don’t care one bit about your privacy.

To be clear, all the big cell phone companies are bad, Verizon is just the worst.

If this has you concerned (or your blood is boiling like mine after typing this)…
